Holt House

We're excited to share with you the story of Holt House, a remarkable project brought to life in collaboration with architect Kin Projects. Nestled on a rare vacant block in Bendigo, Holt House may appear as a simple, minimalist timber home on the outside, but within its walls, it transforms into a sanctuary seamlessly integrated with sustainability initiatives. The unique opportunity presented by this empty block allowed us to create a fully electric home from the ground up.

Holt House isn't just a home; it's a mini power station, producing clean, renewable energy that we proudly export back into the shared grid. While the average Australian home consumes approximately 19 kwh of electricity per day, Holt House, thanks to its 14.6 kW solar system and Tesla Powerwall battery, generates an impressive average of 50 kwh per day. This not only enables our home to be self-powered by solar energy but also provides a source of income through the sale of excess electricity to the grid.

One of the most exceptional features of Holt House is its thoughtful design. The living areas are strategically positioned around a north-facing courtyard garden, flooding the interior with natural light and creating a deep connection with nature for us as homeowners. Throughout the house, we've incorporated integrated systems aimed at reducing our overall energy footprint. These include high thermal insulation, double-glazed windows with thermally broken seals, energy-efficient appliances, and strategically placed window openings to maximize passive heating and crossflow ventilation throughout the changing seasons.

Inspired by the natural beauty of our surroundings, the interior palette of Holt House showcases elements like wood, stone, and white tones to evoke a fresh, country feel. Custom-made, integrated joinery takes the place of standard cabinetry, resulting in purpose-built areas, ample internal storage, and flexible spaces that can adapt and evolve over time. The clean and linear design approach we've adopted inside extends seamlessly to the exterior, ensuring a consistent minimalist design language that harmonizes with our environment.

We're immensely proud of Holt House, not only as a beautiful and functional home but also as a testament to the possibilities of sustainable living in today's world. Thanks to the visionary work of Kin Projects and our expertise at Luke Milroy Constructions, we've created a home that not only meets our needs but also contributes positively to our community and the environment. Holt House is a symbol of our commitment to quality craftsmanship and sustainable living.
